El 31 de octubre, utilizando los nuevos poderes presidenciales de indulto el d\u00eda en que entraron en vigencia, el presidente mexicano Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto indult\u00f3 al maestro de la escuela maya Alberto Patisht\u00e1n G\u00f3mez, quien hab\u00eda estado encarcelado durante 13 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de un juicio plagado de irregularidades. Condenado a 60 a\u00f1os de prisi\u00f3n por su ostensible participaci\u00f3n en una emboscada en la que fueron asesinados siete polic\u00edas, Amnist\u00eda Internacional y organizaciones de derechos humanos en todo M\u00e9xico y el mundo denunciaron su injusto encarcelamiento.
